»Vision 2020: Changing the Story of Northeast Indiana
The percentage of per capita income in Northeast Indiana has been on the decline for nearly 40 years. In fact, in 2009, Northeast Indiana fell to 79.5% of the national average.
As a result, the Northeast Indiana Regional Partnership and its many partners have decided to take action, creating a regional initiative called Vision 2020. By collaborating as a region, we can leverage our strengths and assets to change the story of Northeast Indiana and achieve our vision by the year 2020.
»What is Vision 2020?
Vision 2020, a regional initiative stewarded by the Partnership, began with a six-month visioning process in 2010 that collected input from over 1,000 individuals from the 10-county region about their thoughts on the future of Northeast Indiana. As a result of these meetings and the benchmarking of successful regions across the country, five key areas were identified as being able to have the most significant economic impact on the region. Those five key focus areas are called The Pillars of Vision 2020: 21st Century Talent, Competitive Business Climate, Entrepreneurship, Infrastructure and Quality of Life.
Under the leadership of the Regional Opportunities Council (ROC), the Partnership will work to create regional alignment and find additional Vision 2020 partners who can act as champions in implementing strategies around the five pillars. While there are multiple pillars and strategies, there is one collective goal—to turn Northeast Indiana’s declining per capita income around and create a globally competitive region.

With multiple organizations, businesses and individuals moving Vision 2020 forward, maintaining alignment in our efforts is critical for long-term sustainability. A unified mission and vision for Northeast Indiana ensures that as we develop strategies within each pillar, we are doing so with focus, continuing to align with our core purpose for years to come.
