A Vision 2020 Update by Director Katy Silliman

“Into the 2011 home stretch with a lot to get done;” that’s where I feel like we are with Vision 2020. With all of the work done this year, we are now focused on achieving a few key milestones by November. Why November? Because that is when we’d like to go public with our 2011 accomplishments.
Those key milestones include:

  • One to two opportunities for each of the five pillars approved by the Regional Opportunities Council (the leadership body for Vision 2020)
  • Feedback on our opportunities gained from regional stakeholders on the Citizens Advisory Panel
  • Community and leadership consensus around a regional vision/a stake in the ground (think Indy and the Amateur Sports Capital)
  • And funding allocations made by the Regional Opportunities Council to help seed some of these opportunities.

In order to get there, we need to do the following:

  • Meet with the Regional Opportunities Council (ROC) on September 8th and October 20th to review and prioritize the opportunities
  • Identify and possibly approve ROC funding allocations
  • Move forward with a regional vision
  • Meet with the Citizens Advisory Panel on September 28th utilizing CVC Communications Creative Café process to vet the top ten opportunities for the region (yes, it is a sneak peak!)
  • Conduct the 21st Century Talent Conference on October 5th to further the discussion on the critical need for talent development in Northeast Indiana with two amazing speakers (Ian Jukes, 21st Century Fluency Project, and Dewayne Matthews, the Lumina Foundation)
  • And lastly, get out to speak with as many community members and leaders between now and November to make sure we have as much feedback, counsel and support as possible to go public.

This can sometimes feel overwhelming and I must apologize if I’ve confused you with all of our different terms and titles (we’re working on a glossary). But the passion and enthusiasm that I have seen and heard from community leaders is really inspiring and has convinced me that we are edging closer to truly great things happening in Northeast Indiana.
